[09:56]echedey: A little thing I saw today.
[09:56]echedey: I was not able to use the HDMI output in Trinity because it seems that is not detected by KMix and aRTS.
[09:56]echedey: ALSA detects it correctly even if I cannot modify the volume on it.
[09:56]echedey: Why is that?
[10:00]micheleC: kmix should detects the same things as ALSA does, normally. But there are some cases reported where the two were doing different things, it comes down to the underline hw
[10:01]micheleC: and the capabilities reported to Kmix
[10:54]echedey: maybe it is because alsa cannot administrate hdmi audio
[10:54]echedey: i understand then
[10:54]echedey: is there a workaround around arts for HDMI audio?
[10:56]micheleC: uhm... not sure to be honest. Other than debugging it and understand what KMix sees.
[10:56]micheleC: maybe you can try dropping an email on the user ML to see if anyone who had a similar issue has better ideas....
[10:56]echedey: okay, don't worry and thank you for the info
[10:57]micheleC: sorry for not being of much help here
[10:57]micheleC: (y)
[10:57]echedey: i ask this because i was setting debian with trinity in a raspbery pi 400 which doesn't have audio ports
[10:57]echedey: the other solution is audio over usb which i think will work
[10:57]micheleC: (y)
[10:58]micheleC: btw you know there are raspbian packages for TRinity available, right?
[10:58]echedey: i am using debian
[10:58]echedey: not raspbian
[10:58]micheleC: at Debian: (y) best distro ever
[10:58]micheleC: :-D
[10:59]echedey: with scripts at https://salsa.debian.org/raspi-team/image-specs you can build debian for rpis (sorry for the offtopic)
[10:59]echedey: so that is my current base for trinity. it works very smooth in the rpi btw
[11:02]micheleC: thanks for the OT info, good to keep it in mind

[15:40]pitriss: echedey: I am running devuan on Pi4 8GB model here. Works more than nicely with trinity. Not using USB sound though..
[15:40]pitriss: ehh HDMI
[15:42]echedey: are you using alsa or pulseaudio?
[15:42]echedey: pulseaudio is also used in devuan in some enviroments, they made it work time ago
[15:42]echedey: can also be installed as result of certain dependencies
[15:43]pitriss: Alsa. It works.. needed to specify default sound card and disable HDMI sound via some overays but works great
[15:44]echedey: if you open alsamixer and select hdmi audio, what information says to you?
[15:44]echedey: just to be sure
[15:45]echedey: in my case, alsa just tells me that cannot manage volume in that sound card
[15:45]pitriss: I don't like these Lennart-things.. Too bloated, too much away from default idea behind "KISS" approach
[15:45]pitriss: On my pi, no such thing happened.
[15:45]echedey: i want to be sure that it tells you the same, so i can try to choose it as default and see if the problem was that
[15:46]echedey: I am using Raspberry PI 400
[15:46]pitriss: yeah it can have slightly different HW..
[15:46]echedey: as far i read, only the wifi was different from the debian documentation
[15:47]echedey: the thing is that alsa detects the hdmi sound but cannot manage volume. in kmix directly hdmi sound interface is not showed
[15:47]echedey: only PCM one
[15:48]pitriss: If you want to try devuan then https://github.com/pyavitz/rpi-img-builder or just images: https://github.com/pyavitz/binary/releases Guys on their IRC are nice and helpful. :)
[15:48]pitriss: I don't have audio on my HDMI screens, I can't help here
[15:49]echedey: thank you, i use devuan in my current pc with trinity too but didnt know that builder exist and had no time to do debootstrapping by hand
[15:49]echedey: oh
[15:49]echedey: okay, i was using hdmi interface for audio, that is the difference
[15:49]pitriss: you don't need to.. Guys have already full images with base system :)
[15:49]echedey: as the RPI 400 deleted audio interfaces at all
[15:50]pitriss: Ahh
[15:51]pitriss: Okay.. I wish I could help you but my setup doesn't allow me to.. My 55" tv is in different room than my Pi and I already integrated my setup into my desk so its hard to pull it out and use anywhere without making terrible mess there :(
[15:52]echedey: dont worry, this is not for today or anything
