[00:50]TomTheDragon: I'm experiencing some strange bug now that I updated to R14.1.0, on Debian. The desktop keeps hanging up with 100% processor usage. If I happen to have transparent konsole windows, it hangs up konsole too.
[00:51]TomTheDragon: exact version is: kdesktop-trinity/unknown,now 4:14.1.0-0debian12.0.0+0~a amd64 [installed]

[02:11]micheleC: @TomTheDragon: what is the process using all that CPU time?
[02:12]micheleC: is it kdesktop itself?
[02:12]micheleC: I am running the same version as you on Debian 12, but I don't get CPUs running crazy

[03:35]TomTheDragon: micheleC: It is kdesktop itself.
[03:39]TomTheDragon: It could be some other installed software, if it's hanging up on something like DBUS, though I don't have symbols and can't seem to find a symbol package.
[03:48]micheleC: uhm... kdesktop don't use dbus as far as I know. Unless some icons on it refers to some process that uses it, but it seems weird
[03:48]micheleC: did you update to R14.1.0 from CLI or from an existing TDE session?
[03:49]TomTheDragon: from an existing TDE session but I'm not sure how that'd matter... I've rebooted since.
[03:49]micheleC: and of course, the basic question: does it happen also after a reboot?
[03:49]TomTheDragon: An actual reboot, since... well, TDE still doesn't seem to clean up all its garbage after exiting a session.
[03:50]micheleC: ah, existing session. With R14.1.0 there are API and ABI changes, so existing applications may be affected
[03:50]micheleC: if you login as a new user, do you have the same problem? just to understand if it something config related or something wrong in the upgrade perhaps
[03:51]TomTheDragon: I do have quite a lot installed, may need to do a clean install with a subset of packages.
[03:51]micheleC: ok, maybe try to narrow down the scope and write back here if you questions
[03:51]TomTheDragon: Hmm, I can try that. Bit of a pain with just how much configuration I have but that also means it's a likely candidate. Thanks.
[03:51]TomTheDragon: Do you know anything about dbg packages or would I need a manually built package set?
[03:52]micheleC: current packages in debian are build without debug, but with debug symbols
[03:53]TomTheDragon: though it looks like it's spinning deep in glib, or tqt's event loop, but I'm not truly sure
[03:53]micheleC: I would definitely begin testing a new user and take it from there step by step
[03:53]TomTheDragon: alright
[03:54]micheleC: ah, also try to change the theme. There was a bug in baghira which lead to SEGV which showed up as glib/tqevent in backtraces
[03:54]TomTheDragon: hmm
[03:54]TomTheDragon: will try that too
[03:55]micheleC: if changing the theme "solves" the issue, then the searching scope will be much narrower
[03:56]TomTheDragon: though I use redmond myself, so it'd be a different bug if it's that. thanks for the advice, though.

[03:57]micheleC: but worth checking
