[05:21]adamk: Is there a way to let applications use my file manager (Konqueror)? They either just open a random program or display the directory listing in Firefox.
[05:24]inverted_rabbit: The fault of xdg mime. You'll need to set konqueror as the default for inode/directory for xdg. This can be as simple as editing ~/.config/mimeapps.list, or you can use a dedicated program for it.
[05:24]inverted_rabbit: For example, my setting under mimeapps.list is "inode/directory=kfmclient_dir.desktop"
[05:32]adamk: Do I need to restart/logout of my system for the changes to kick in?
[05:32]inverted_rabbit: I usually do not have to, atmost just needing to restart whatever program is opening the wrong thing.

[05:38]adamk: Would I have to make a desktop file in the .local/share/applications folder for Konqueror?
[05:39]inverted_rabbit: No, ones for TDE already exist and should be usable if you are running under TDE.

[05:58]adamk: for some reason, the applications still wont open the file manager. I'll see if logging out of my system or restarting it does something.

[06:04]adamk: Still not working for some reason.
[06:04]adamk: The desktop entry does exist
[06:05]adamk: the line I added is 'inode/directory=kfmclient_dir.desktop;' under [Added Associations]
[06:13]inverted_rabbit: /opt/trinity/share/applications/tde/
[06:13]inverted_rabbit: If that doesn't work, then I am unsure.
[06:14]inverted_rabbit: If you run `xdg-open /` and it opens your root directory in konqueror, then it should be working.
[06:15]adamk: It does open my root directory in Konqueror
[06:15]inverted_rabbit: Do you happen to have a '~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list'?
[06:16]adamk: I do not. I only have mimeinfo.cache
[06:17]inverted_rabbit: Hmm. Try removing that.
[06:19]adamk: That didn't do anything. Would I have to create a mimeapps file under that directory and add the directory line?
[06:21]inverted_rabbit: No. It's a deprecated path. Your '~/.config/mimeapps.list' should override it but some applications still check it first. What application are you using to test with?
[06:21]adamk: Firefox, Nicotine Plus (soulseek client)
[06:23]adamk: I executed the xdg-open command again. I've noticed that it prints the following. "No applications found for mimetype: inode/directory"
[06:24]inverted_rabbit: Those both should be using xdg-mime so I see no reason why they wouldn't work.
[06:26]inverted_rabbit: ยป [01:22:01] <adamk> I executed the xdg-open command again. I've noticed that it prints the following. "No applications found for mimetype: inode/directory"
[06:26]inverted_rabbit: And did it open konqueror? Hmm. Maybe your system is using the deprecated path. See if anything changes if you move ~/.config/mimeapps.list to ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list. I usually have them symlinked myself just incase.
[06:29]inverted_rabbit: If that doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas.

[17:20]arraybolt3: Silly question with regards to XWayland - there doesn't happen to be any "magic" way to make TWin able to decorate native Wayland windows is there? I assume that whatever underlying compositor one uses will get to decorate those and so apps that are Wayland-only will appear misthemed. Also unsure if they'll appear in the taskbar.
[18:53]akh: arraybolt3: I think that's up to the top-level compositor with each client free to do their own thing.
[18:53]akh: As I understand it clients (XWayland in this case) have no control over other clients appearance.
[18:54]akh: With Wayland the window manager is an inextricable part of the top-level compositor with no provision for it being an external process/client.
[18:54]akh: To further complicate things, clients can also be compositors themselves.
[18:54]akh: That's my understanding at least.
[18:57]akh: In other words, XWayland can alter how X clients are displayed but it can't control how other clients are displayed.
[18:59]arraybolt3: kk
[18:59]arraybolt3: that kind of stinks but oh well
[23:01]bonkmaykr: Okay I've got an actual issue this time, thread's been inactive for 2 weeks so I'm dropping it here if anyone wants to pick it up https://mail.trinitydesktop.org/mailman3/hyperkitty/list/users@trinitydesktop.org/thread/KSJTZBSHZ74EPWH3PHXMO7BGYTSBWPQF/
[23:29]akh: bonkmaykr: Are you running the binary NVidia drivers?
[23:29]bonkmaykr: The proprietary ones? Yes
[23:29]bonkmaykr: I want to try NVK soon but it's off the table right now
[23:32]akh: This might help:
[23:33]akh: Open NVidia X Server Settings (on the commandline that's nvidia-settings).
[23:33]akh: Go to "X Server Display Configuration", click on the screen you want to have considered the main one, check "Make this the primary display for the X screen", then click "Apply".
[23:35]akh: (It also might do bugger all)
[23:57]bonkmaykr: Alright I'll try that ASAP when I get home from work
[23:58]akh: no promises that it'll work, just a hunch on my part
[23:59]inverted_rabbit: It's always something Nvidia....
[23:59]bonkmaykr: Lol yeah I would have went amd if I didn't need cuda+rtx for blender & resolve work
