[14:31] | neoncortex: I have a few questions: how do you develop applications in trinity? There is something like kdevelop? What irc clients do you use? ksirc seems to not work with vnc. |
[14:31] | ceux: neoncortex: i use IRSSI, but i have since 2004 |
[14:31] | ceux: but people use Kopete I think |
[14:31] | ceux: for developing, i think kdiff is really good and tdevelop is OK, but i mostly use konsole+ vim + kdiff |
[14:35] | neoncortex: I see. |
[14:35] | neoncortex: I just installed it. It is so refreshing to see it again. Hoping for the best. |
[14:36] | ceux: oh very good. I wouldnt necessarily recommend using tdevelop. I think Kopete is pretty decent though. I use IRSSI because it's on a bounce server. |
[14:36] | ceux: best applicatons are kmail, konqueror, kdiff, for me. |
[14:36] | neoncortex: yeah, I mainly use irssi, too, but I thought in experimenting with the graphical clients. |
[14:38] | ceux: i am sure you can, or one can, i just dont have a reliable local connection, therefore I use a bouncer so i can read the backlog and be online all the time |
[14:38] | micheleC: Kopete is quite ok, I use it daily |
[14:38] | micheleC: for development, Konsole + neovim |
[14:39] | ceux: micheleC: sounds about right |
[14:39] | micheleC: you can use tdevelop but a modern neovim + selected plugins gives a better environment |
[14:39] | ceux: plus modal editing, portable, etc. |
[14:39] | micheleC: @ceux: can't beat vim/neovim :-D |
[14:39] | neoncortex: ha |
[14:39] | ceux: it's true i am still using vim micheleC but i finally update my config |
[14:40] | ceux: apparently pathogen or whatever i was using was retired a long time ago |
[14:40] | ceux: switched over the the plug system and even got some fancy php stuff setup for work |
[14:40] | micheleC: I use packersync, but there are other package manager too |
[14:40] | ceux: quite nice being able to Gd and jump to a ile. |
[14:40] | ceux: micheleC: i was using the pre-builtin system. |
[14:40] | ceux: it was vundle actually. |
[14:41] | micheleC: try fzf-vim (in vim) or fzf-lua (in neovim). will completely change your workflow :-) |
[14:41] | micheleC: recommend rg over grep too |
[14:41] | ceux: is that like fuzzy file finder? |
[14:41] | ceux: micheleC: ack |
[14:42] | micheleC: and a good lsp integration plugin |
[14:42] | ceux: that's what I have |
[14:42] | micheleC: (y) |
[14:42] | ceux: I am using... phpactor, vdebug, syntastic, mru and ctrl-p |
[14:42] | micheleC: ok. I use different plungins, but many have similar functionality. |
[14:43] | ceux: phpactor is the lsp for php |
[14:43] | ceux: vdebug is just a like gdb frontend, works with xdebug. syntastic is just an linter, and mru is recent files. ctrl-p is sort of a fuzzy file finder |
[14:43] | micheleC: it's a matter of choice and as long as it works for you and you are happy with your setup, there is no reason to do otherwise. But keep exploring plugins, some are really great |
[14:43] | ceux: i am not so happy |
[14:43] | ceux: i am... happier |
[14:44] | ceux: like i said, i finally went and did phpactor and upgraded my plugins and stuff |
[14:44] | ceux: i need to go back and futz with phpactor, i would like function hinting because the php standard library is terrible |
[14:44] | micheleC: (y) |
[14:44] | ceux: impossible to remember, some functions are like (needle, haystack) or (haystack, needle). I cant ever remember the orders. |
[14:45] | micheleC: lsp integration is what you are looking for. nvim comes with some good plugins written in lua, but I am sure you will find good ones for vim too |
[14:45] | ceux: phpactor seems to be the reference one |
[14:46] | micheleC: ok, I don't do php stuff, so can't comment on that |
[14:46] | ceux: for php, which i mostly work in. |
[14:46] | akh: just tossing my 2 cents in, for TDE coding I use nedit (plain text editor) for most things, eclipse for more complex code |
[14:46] | ceux: its fine. it's like writing runtime java these days. very competent language. not very expressive. |
