[11:45] | Pozitigor: Hello! I have built TDE on Slackware using the Ray-V script, but there are a few problems occurring here: I have a jack audio server that starts right after KMix, so I need to kill KMix and start it again. Secondly, KMail says that "identification support was not included when building tdeio_smtp" when I'm trying to send a message. How can I fix these issues? |
[11:51] | micheleC: for kmail, it is probably a "WITH_*" option to pass at build time to cmake. I didn't look into the code, but that would be the first thing I would check |
[11:51] | micheleC: for the jack audio, not really sure where to start from |
[11:55] | Pozitigor: Thanks, I'll try to build Kmail using "WITH_*". Speaking of Jack and KMix, is it possible to make KMix wait 1-2 seconds before loading? |
[11:55] | micheleC: uhm, you probably have to disable kmix autostart and use a custom script to start it after a few seconds. |
[11:56] | micheleC: or you can add a config option to kmix for a delay start and propose that as a TDE addition :-) |
[12:05] | Pozitigor: Okay, i seem to have set up KMix. Now i will reboot the system to test it. |

[12:37] | Pozitigor: It Worked, thanks! Now i'm gonna rebuild KMail, after that, i will build the themes "Polyester" and "Fahrenheit". By the way, i remember seeing the "application control panel" in version 14.0, similar to that of KDE/macOS. However, it was only accessible when adding a new panel. For some reason, i can't seem to find it now. Has it been deleted? |
[12:39] | micheleC: what do you mean by "application control panel"? like something to check what applications are installed? |
[12:42] | Pozitigor: No, this is the thing that mac OS has on the top panel on the left. |
[12:50] | Pozitigor: oh, i even got the screenshot of my desktop with TDE 14.0 version, where i had an application panel, may i share a link to that screenshot? |
[12:51] | micheleC: sure |
[12:52] | micheleC: sounds like the taskbar |
[12:52] | micheleC: maybe you need to add it back to the kicker panel? |

[12:59] | Pozitigor: it was another panel that i needed to add using the "add new panel" menu. For this reason, the top panel looks empty because I couldn't add anything there. |
[12:59] | micheleC: you mean the top bar with the application menu bar |
[12:59] | micheleC: that changes every time you change window? |
[13:00] | Pozitigor: yes |
[13:00] | micheleC: there is an option somewhere to enable it |
[13:01] | micheleC: I am trying to remember where |
[13:01] | Pozitigor: it was in "add new panel" menu, but now it's gone |
[13:03] | Pozitigor: the "add new panel" menu appears when you right click panel on desktop |
[13:04] | micheleC: uhm, I thought it was somewhere in the control panel |
[13:14] | Pozitigor: ok, so i added "WITH_*" to the tdepim slackbuild file and now have to wait for its build to complete |
[13:16] | micheleC: no, "WITH_*" is not an option. There are many "WITH_<something>" options, so perhaps you missed one of them |
[13:16] | micheleC: "WITH_*" as is will do nothing :-) |
[13:17] | micheleC: I can't find where that application panel option is |
[13:17] | micheleC: we didn't remove it from tde |
[13:18] | micheleC: so it should be available |
[13:20] | micheleC: maybe write to the user mailing list, someone may be able to remember where it is |
[13:22] | Pozitigor: ah, so that's why it didn't do anything, but there's not much information about kmail build options in the "how to build TDE" documentation, so it's impossible to use kmail with smtp, i suppose? |
[13:24] | Pozitigor: Does the "application control panel" not appear when you try to add a new panel? |
[13:25] | micheleC: ah not, that info would be in the cmake source files |
[13:26] | micheleC: no, I can't find the appilcation panel as well |
[13:26] | micheleC: maybe it is an addon/plugin module that I have not installed |
[13:28] | Pozitigor: I think this panel was removed because it could only be used with TDE tqt programs, but not with applications on gtk2/3 |
[13:28] | micheleC: I don't remember it being removed |
[13:31] | Pozitigor: then it is very strange if it has not been removed from TDE, only if the panel itself has not been removed, but the "application control panel" button from the "add new panel" menu has been removed. |
[13:32] | micheleC: I just checked in Lenny + KDE 3.5.10 and the "add new panel" menu is exactly the same |
[13:32] | micheleC: I am quite sure the option is somewhere else in the control panel, I just don't remember where |
[13:33] | micheleC: TCC -> Desktop -> Behavior -> Menubar at top of the screeb |
[13:33] | micheleC: *screen |
[13:34] | Pozitigor: oops, i think i confused the version where i saw this button, it was version 14.1 and not 14.0 as i said earlier |
[13:35] | micheleC: it's the same, we never changed anything about that option. It is in the same place where it was in KDE 3.5.10 |
[13:35] | micheleC: and it is still there |
[13:38] | Pozitigor: yes, it turns out to have been in this item in the settings all this time, how could i not see it |
[13:40] | Pozitigor: thank you! |

[17:55] | neoncortex: hey, hear me out: how hard it would be to use the x security extensions on the trinity applications? Like I have no idea how things work yet, like how applications are launched, and managed, so if what Im saying is nonsense, please tell me. The extensions in question are: https://www.x.org/releases/X11R7.6/doc/xextproto/security.html . |
[17:56] | neoncortex: I can use firejail to launch applications with that security extensions enabled, but could them be integrated into a desktop environment? |
