[16:22]zubairs: Hi, thank you for keeping TDE 3.5.x alive! I fondly remember KDE when I first started using Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon, at that time my device did not have enough memory to run KDE, and I am of the opinion that that was the most usable release so far.
[16:24]zubairs: How can I check ongoing dev work? The Gittea is asking me to login, is there a way to check the features planned?

[16:30]SlavekB: Overview of what is already ready for the upcoming R14.1.5:

[16:46]zubairs: I would like to try contributing to TDE but I have some concerns, like I am a Debian user since Lenny v5(2012, as the memory was low and Ubuntu struggled), not a debian packager. These skills helped me become a sysadmin and eventually I have worked on AWS (and a bit of Azure), bash scripting, build pipelines, config mgmt, Ansible and Salt, kubernetes, ArgoCD, etc. And now trying to learn Ruby and then RoR.
[16:47]zubairs: I'm not sure how learning C++ and older QT development will help me sustain, as I want to sustain this work and be a long term user and a contributor. I am using TDE and KDE(at work).
[16:56]denk: everything can be studied step by step
[17:01]zubairs: Correct, but we have limited time, I have spent more than a decade on the infra side, that work was becoming repitative and I was getting bored, that is when I reazlied perhaps FLOSS can keep me engaged, at the same time I do not want to take on too much that I cannot contribute.
[17:03]denk: you cannot learn a new language in a day (programming or human)
[17:07]zubairs: language comes next, maybe as a user I can help somewhere in the limited time that I have? I mean I really like TDE, would like it to grow further, KDE is too fast and too many changes for me.
[17:10]SlavekB: There are many things where you can contribute. Testing upcoming releases, report issues, translating (if English is not your native language).
[17:13]zubairs: Sure, are there testing builds that a user can install?
[17:14]zubairs: Btw, where is the kcollectd? It is not included in the TDE apps list? https://www.forwiss.uni-passau.de/~berberic/Linux/kcollectd.html
[17:15]zubairs: Or the user has to build it?
[17:16]zubairs: kcollectd was developed for KDE, they have version for 3.x too.
[17:26]SlavekB: For Debian / Raspbian / Ubuntu there is PSB repository:

[17:27]SlavekB: ...or PTB repository to test future R14.2.0:
[17:27]SlavekB: https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Preliminary_Testing_Builds
[17:27]tde-bot: Page title: Preliminary Testing Builds - Trinity Desktop Project Wiki
[17:32]SlavekB: Kcollectd is not (yet) ready for TDE. But I remember that I have it on the list of applications that would be good to integrate under the TDE umbrella.
[17:37]zubairs: So we can use the PTB instead of the Stable builds and report on the issues? Maybe have another WM/DE as a backup in case of crashes?
[17:45]zubairs: And thank you for having kcollectd, it will complete the collection, it is impressive that a small team is maintaining such a project, how do you guys juggle this with your professional work?
[17:45]SlavekB: There seems to be many users who use PSB in their normal daily work.
[17:50]zubairs: Ok, I'll stick with PSB.
