[15:49]fonks: howdy, is mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org down? I'm trying to upgrade my Debian system to Trixie and `apt update` is hanging up at trying to get HTTP headers from the server
[15:52]fonks: If I need to wait it out for apt to just ignore the sources for now I will, but I don't know if there's any other channel to report the ppa server having problems

[16:17]denk: it's not a ddos, too many clients want to install tde at the same time
[16:17]fonks: alright, will try again later then o7 thanks for clarifying
[16:17]fonks: I guess I chose a bad time to do a system upgrade :P
[16:18]denk: it was a joke about clients
[16:40]fonks: ah, I see :) in all seriousness, though, is the server having issues for anyone else or is it just me?
[16:40]fonks: And if it is having trouble, will keeping the old bookworm version around on trinity cause any issues until I can download the trinity packages?
[16:42]denk: for averyone, and for me too
[16:42]denk: *everyone
[16:44]fonks: Good to know. I think I'll just go ahead and do the upgrade sans trinity packages and with any luck the bookworm version will run at least acceptably functionally until the server comes back up and I can download trixie packages
[16:45]denk: I'm not sure about compatibility, for example, a new libc with old packages
[16:45]denk: but you can try it
[16:47]fonks: Depending on how old the bookworm build is, I think glibc has binary compatibility a few versions back
[16:50]denk: penguins like to change APIs
[16:51]fonks: yeah, they do. Hopefully not enough to break too much :)
[16:52]denk: try zfs, then change the kernel
[16:52]fonks: sure, but this is just a DE :p worst case I can just live with twm or a console until I can upgrade trinity, which I'm more than fine with doing
[16:53]fonks: And best case, it's just old trinity
[16:54]denk: penguins have no boot environments (aka BE), you cannot do a snapshot of the system, upgrade it and then revert to previous state like we can do it (illumos)
[16:55]denk: that is why I suggest you "to try" :)
[16:56]fonks: I'm not sure what you mean. If you're trying to say I might not be able to reboot, I have safeguards in place for that
[16:58]denk: you can't understand me because I am an alien system form :)

[18:17]fonks: turns out I didn't have to wait long, the server came right back up after I finished the system upgrade. The bookworm version worked mostly fine, at least well enough for me to bring up Konversation and a terminal to finish the upgrade. Thanks for the help :)
