[00:51]tian2992: tried out q4os, it was fine and snappy; and gave me a good taste of TDE. I need to try it out now on my main openSUSE desktop :)

[01:52]ceux: i havent run q4OS but it's certainly a good play to play with TDE>
[01:52]ceux: i find it takes time to settle in, there are many ways to run it. It is not so opinionated

[19:54]CaffeineCanidae: Hiya!
[19:54]CaffeineCanidae: Bit of a strange question, but how do you set up Trinity to use Pipewire as an external audio player?
[19:54]CaffeineCanidae: I'm on Gentoo and I don't think Trinity uses or pulls arts as an audio player
[19:55]CaffeineCanidae: Do I just put the binary path to the audio player in the audio settings? Or maybe to the audio mixer like Pavucontrol?
[19:57]CaffeineCanidae: Trinity doesn't seem to detect the I/O for audio on the Sound System settings - however other audio and applications does work, such as Amarok, just not the desktop audio for notifications, other sounds, etc..

[20:56]ceux: CaffeineCanidae : yes its ot a weird question, however the mailing list may be gbetter... but it uses arts for its internal sound (alerts, sound effects, etc)
[20:56]ceux: some of the various tools can use different backends like pulse, alsa, OSS, like amarok
[20:56]ceux: i think amarok uses a xine backend i forget.

[21:34]ceux: CaffeineCanidae : yes its ot a weird question, however the mailing list may be gbetter... but it uses arts for its internal sound (alerts, sound effects, etc)

[21:34]ceux: i think amarok uses a xine backend i forget.
[21:34]ceux: theres movement towards adding pulse support like a new mixer (tmix) that supports pulse+pipewire in development
[21:36]CaffeineCanidae: Ah okay, so I don't believe there's anything for the moment?
[21:37]CaffeineCanidae: ceux: Also yeah, sorry I didn't see them, didn't mean to randomly exit xD
[21:39]ceux: thats ok. maybe use a bonucer
[21:39]ceux: CaffeineCanidae: for example, I use pulse audio.
[21:39]ceux: artsd uses alsa as a backend so it works
[21:39]ceux: but its not so unified
[21:42]CaffeineCanidae: ceux: Yeah I've been trying to figure out how to set it up
[21:42]ceux: pulse?
[21:42]ceux: what distribution are you on
[21:42]CaffeineCanidae: Yeah I think the Gentoo Wiki talks about having both pulseaudio and pipewire as a USE flag
[21:42]ceux: I see, I have no idea how to help unfortunately.
[21:42]CaffeineCanidae: ceux: Gentoo, which has variable support for TDE I think
[21:43]CaffeineCanidae: It's mainly based on the Live version I believe, compared to the stable
[21:43]ceux: again i think there are ports for tde for gentoo. can you just install the pulse port?
[21:43]CaffeineCanidae: ceux: Pulse port?
[21:46]ceux: ur
[21:46]ceux: package?
[21:46]ceux: i dont know what gentoo calls things
[21:46]ceux: i thought it was called a port
[21:56]CaffeineCanidae: Oooh yeah, sorry that makes sense
[21:57]CaffeineCanidae: Yeah ebuilds I think it is, but the manager is called portage because it's based on some BSD package manager I think?
[22:14]CaffeineCanidae: Yeah I've checked pipewire's installed and everything and should be running
[22:14]CaffeineCanidae: But I'm just thinking, is there a way to switch the sound server?
[22:15]CaffeineCanidae: It does seem like there's an option, use an external player, but I'm just not sure what you'd put there, it's a dialog box and a documents selector, rather than a menu
